Bill Bickerton … a life member of four show societies.

A Nar Nar Goon resident last week received his fourth show life membership in 11 years. Bill Bickerton is a familiar name to show workers at Dandenong, Bunyip, and Pakenham shows, all of which have made him a life member.

And last week at its annual meeting Berwick Show Society added him to its list of life members.

A dairy and sheep farmer now in his 80th year, Bill still lends a hand at the Nar Nar Goon farm owned by family members David, Kay, and Andrew Spierings.

He started showing Jersey cattle in the 1940s, and in 1970 established the Central Park Southdown Sheep Stud at Hampton Park, eventually trading down to five acres and keeping a few sheep.

Speaking at the Berwick annual meeting last week, member Louise Reeves described Bill’s achievement as “a rare and wonderful record”.

“I became involved in shows with the encouragement of friends,” he said on Tuesday.
