Reserve posts a goal

TOOMUC Reserve continues to reach new heights in football, with AFL-size goal posts now installed at the oval.

The posts are twice the height of the original posts: the big sticks are now 15 metres high, while the point posts stand at 10 metres, the same as those at the MCG, SCG, Gabba, Subiaco and AAMI, Skilled and Etihad stadiums.

Pakenham Lions Football Club president Brian Jagoe said Toomuc Reserve was the first oval used by the Mornington Peninsula and Nepean Football League (MPNFL) to get the AFL-size posts.

They were installed over three days last week, and were ready in time for Thursday night’s training session.

The posts are yet another boost for the oval, which is renowned for its tip-top playing surface.

The Hawthorn Football Club has become quite fond of the reserve since the club had its first pre-season training session at the oval three years ago – and it continues to be complimented.

“We had Peter Knights (Hawthorn great) here the other day with the inter league game and he said the ground just gets better every time we use it,” Mr Jagoe said.

The Cardinia Shire Council paid for the installation of the goal posts.

Mr Jagoe thanked Cardinia Shire chief executive Garry McQuillan and manager of sustainable communities Jim Divine for supporting the project.
