Going through the motions: Cher putting in the training hours. 32475

CHERYLYNE Fuehrer’s love of fitness was ignited after doctors told her at 39 she might not live another year.

Cher, now 43, attributes her improved health and positive attitude to her full on-training schedule.

Weighing in at 95kg in November 2006, Cher has certainly prolonged her life by losing over 30 kg to date. “I started really small, just walking on the treadmill and changing my diet,” Cher said.

Cher says that up until this point she had never been an active person, instead she was pouring her energy into gruelling 12-15 hour workdays.

However, Cher hasn’t looked back since becoming a Health Club member at Cardinia LiFE YMCA in Pakenham in April 2007.

Cher’s weekly training schedule now involves three personal training sessions, Body Combat classes, gym workouts and long distance running.

Since achieving her initial weight loss goals, Cher has now set her sights on this year’s Melbourne Marathon in October.

Completing her first fun run locally in 2008 was a personal milestone, and Cher now tries to enter at least one fun run over 15km each month.

The next challenge for Cher is the Run Melbourne’s half marathon at the end of June.

Cher’s transformation has taken almost three years of dedication, a willingness to try new things, and making sure she is always challenged.

“My new attitude now is go hard or go home; you don’t know what the body is capable of unless you try something.”

It may sound a cliché but keeping Cher motivated is the euphoric feeling of completing a tough training session, and running over the finish line. “I’ve got so much more energy and I love the buzz I get after I’ve finished my workout,” Cher says.

Cher is also determined never to revert back to the way she was - seriously unhealthy, overweight and unhappy.

Cher’s fitness is now a life long commitment and she has re-evaluated her priorities by reducing her work hours.
