BROADMEADOWS resident Denise McGrath is short on time, but she still manages to do something for her community.

Ms McGrath owns her own business consultancy, is studying entrepreneurship and still manages to volunteer for the Broadmeadows Health Service (BHS) Community Participation Advisory Committee (CPAC).

The committee provides a link between the BHS and the community and is now searching for five new members.

The committee consists of nine members who provide ideas, advice and feedback to managers and staff on a range of different aspects of the health service.

Ms McGrath has been volunteering for about three years and said the experience had been very rewarding.

“I guess because I live in Broadmeadows – we waited for years and years and years to have a hospital in Broadmeadows so I wanted to have some positive input,” she said.

“So I thought this was a good opportunity to do that and put in a community perspective.”

BHS community development manager Helene Cowley said the CPAC was an effective communication group that voiced the community’s interests and strove to act on them.

“This is an exciting opportunity to become involved and represent the community to improve health care in the local area,” Ms Cowley said.

The committee meets once every two months on a Friday morning at the Broadmeadows Health Service.
